Indigo Ranch - Hard Gloss LP
Recorded by the band in their studio in 2022, Indigo Ranch’s Hard Gloss scratches an itch for DIY sound & aesthetics. Mixed with Jeff Zeigler and mastered by Mikey Young, the album was kept under scrutiny to not leave the path of its analog creation.
Emily Eichelberger’s voice is buried in tape hiss and echo, reaching through to drag you track by track into the rain. The band’s bassist & half dutied programmer, John Pyle, lent himself as engineer. The recording is plush on noise and tape saturation, staying fervently true to their sound from their self released tape “Love Or Perish” Thudding high gain rhythm machines, crackling guitars and looping hypnotic bass lines around it all. Blending mid tempo industrial post-punk and dream pop, Hard Gloss doesn’t leave behind the 80s influences for Emily’s new visions. The album is bookended & intermitted by industrial synth-scapes driving home the band’s disposition. The songwriting can be sat alongside post-punk and dream pop greats Coldreams, Cocteau Twins, Jesus & Mary Chain, and Black Tambourine. Comfortingly dreary vocals and lyrics fix you to the band’s demure gaze. It’s a perfect rainy day glum album.
